Glimpse through the scenic and thrilling visuals of Langkawi and KualaLumpur

We the KeralaCelebrities team, five of us working for the same project for a company based in Thiruvananthapuram, fortunately having about two weeks of Christmas break along with our friend Mr VipinDas running his own business, plans about flying to Malaysia during vacation.

The plan was to spend about five days i.e two days in KualaLumpur(KL) and about three days in Langkawi. Flight from Cochin International Airport(COK) takes about four hours and a couple of minutes more to reach KL and flight to Langkawi from KL will take approximately an hour.

The time zone of KL is about two hours thirty minutes ahead of Indian standard time and we have reached the airport by about midnight of 24th Dec and a pre-booked Taxi took us to our stay at KL, which is about 60kms from the airport.

After having our breakfast from the hotel we stayed, we got into the taxi, waiting outside to take us to the KL wonders.

Genting Highlands, a hill top resort or township comprising of hotels, shopping malls, theme parks, cable-cab, casinos and many more, perched over the peak of Mount Ulu Kali located at about 1,800 meters high which we have purposely skipped since it would need one full day.

The first among the known attractions in KL is the Petronas Towers(Twin Towers) and the KL tower which has the revolving restaurant.

Batu cave temple a Murugan temple is the next attraction any tourist would look for:

The Thean Hou Temple a 6-tiered temple dedicated to the Chinese sea Goddess Tian Hou, who is believed to be the protector fishermen and sailors is located in Kuala Lumpur at Robson Heights along Lorong Bellamy.

The National Monument of Malaysia is a martyr sculpture made in fond remembrance of soldiers who died in Malaysia's struggle for freedom, during World War II mainly against the Japanese occupation. The struggle which started in 1948 and lasted until 1960. The Malaysian Houses of Parliament are situated near the monument in the Federal capital, Kuala Lumpur.

We have opted to visit the Aquaria KLCC an oceanarium located beneath Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre within Kuala Lumpur City Centre instead of marine Underwater World at Langkawi.

Langkawi

Late evening on the Christmas day we flew towards Langkawi island a part of the state of Kedah, located towards the west of Malaysia and adjacent to the Thai border. A favorite location for many film makers, the place was better known among Indians due to the fact that the major chunk of Don(Hindi movie) was filmed at different locations of Malaysia.

The place better known for its scenic beauty, diversified flora and fauna and also one can travel through rope-way on a SkyCab, the cable-stayed SkyBridge and experience various adventure sports at Cenang beach, Eagle Square at Dataran Lang also the marine Underwater World.

We had a pleasant stay at the Bay-view Hotel that night, after sharing some fun about that day's journey we went for a deep sleep.

Next day morning we had a very gorgeous feast like buffet breakfast from the same hotel which was complimentary, while we got a call from the car renting agency that the self driven Toyota Avanza was already waiting outside our hotel.

The drive was about an hour and a more to the Oriental Village which is about 30kms distant from Bayview Hotel since we were not much used to automatic cars. By the way the price of petrol was just half that as compared to India and also liquors were all exempted from tax. Langkawi island has been awarded duty-free status in 1987 by the government, which was at first initiated to make tourism more popular and affordable for Malaysians but later there has been a steady growth in international tourism as well.

The ride to the place was really exciting with through the scenic high-range passing over the hair-pins curves. We left the car at the parking area and moved towards the SkyCab counter, while we could see a distant view of the SkyCabs and accepted the fact that it was really worth the long queue.

We have reached the next station from the base station after about 10 to 15 minutes but felt as-if it was a long-winded one since it was a bit creepy flying through the heights in half open cabins.

From this station we do have two means to reach the SkyBridge one using stairs and the other using the SkyGlide, out of which we have chosen the former even-though it was a bit harder since we were happy with the adrenaline rush we already had :).

After a bit of walking we were eager to see the SkyBridge - the Shooting location of Don movie.

We have skipped Eagle square, Dataran Lang located at about 30 km from Oriental Village which is popular among tourists for photo-shoots. Eagle square is a man-made large sculpture of an eagle about to ascend where people come for spending their evening hours.

By evening we have started towards Cenang beach, famous for adventure sports like JetSki, Parasailing, snorkeling, diving and many more. There are agents nearby who coordinate the activities and proper negotiation can make it more economical.

The Island hopping tour

The next day we opted an Island hopping package which basically takes you through the various other archipelagos of Kedah near to Langkawi.

Feeding Stingray at Langkawi

Langkawi has really fascinating beaches with clear water and one could see the corals lying under the shallow water.

My companions version about How I went missing at the beach ?

"The fervent explorer that he is, has displayed skills in traversing new territories even the depths of the sea. Once he had a chance to have a bath in the shores of Langkawi. As history has it Libin went missing again and his colleagues were unable to locate him. Later with help of a few strangers he resurfaced. Afterwards he confessed his love for the aquatic organisms near the sea bed and wanted to inquire their well-being in person aka “Drowning”!! Zing goes his heart strings when he sees things that appeal to him, putting the people accompanying him in jeopardy."

That evening we flew back to KL and from KL to the 'Gods own country' prevailing the advantage of traveling between two time zones, since IST is 2hours 30minutes behind the Malaysian standard time.
