6. Leh - The capital of the Himalayan kingdom of Ladakh: Mesmerizing trip to the Himalayas

January 6, 2020

By the time we reached Leh from Kargil it was round 4pm in the evening and on the way arranged stay at a Guesthouse with the help of HVKumar aka High Vay King.

Aj managed to carry a few packets of noodles and a kettle and we prepared noodles and greedily had it for the evening, after chatting for a while had a much needed sleep for the day.

The next morning we had a look around the place we stayed. Basically a countryside guesthouse with apple trees, walnuts etc surrounding it.

Faheem and Izmu managed to clean the car early that morning. We had our breakfast like a King with Aloo Paratha along with some butter, some kind of sauce and Dahi(thick curd).

Later that morning first thing we were looking for was the nearest Toyota showroom, Shree Toyota @Leh as the vehicle indicated that its already due for service. And then towards our next destination, the Ancient Leh palace.

Leh Palace, the History

The Leh Palace has been designed similar to the Potala Palace in Lhasa in Tibet. The construction of the Leh Palace, which began in the year 1553, was started by Tsewang Namgyal, one of the rulers of Namgyal dynasty. The construction was then later completed by his successor, Sengge Namgyal in the 17th century. These rulers later resided in the Leh Palace along with their family. The grand structure of the palace was completed with nine storeys in all, one of the tallest structures of those times. The upper floors were used for accommodation, while the floors below were used as stables and storerooms.

Visitor's Timing: Daily, 7.00 AM to 4.00 PM

Then later that day, traversed towards Shanti Stupa is a Buddhist white-domed stupa on a hilltop in Chanspa, Leh district.

Later visited a nearby Tibetan Market and back to our stay at the rest house at Leh.
